The Celts believed that that evening the ghosts of the deceased visited their homes. They used to go to the cemetery to burn candles for the deceased. Children went too. Today, on Halloween, kids dress up as skeletons, vampires, ghosts, and horror clowns to pass the houses at night. They ring the bell and yell \u201cTrick or Treat!\u201d \u201cA trick or a candy.\u201d The people get to choose whether they give a candy or let the children play a scary joke. The hollowed-out pumpkins with scary faces and candles are meant to scare off evil spirits, wandering souls who also come. Nowadays there are many Halloween parties in the Netherlands.
