The Strelitzia comes from South Africa and is a popular houseplant. The plant has 5 varieties of which the Strelitzia Reginae is the most famous and popular because of the unusual shape and sparkling colors of its flowers. Hence her nicknames Bird of Paradise Flower, Bird of Paradise Plant, Bird Head Flower and The Bird of Paradise. The plant symbolizes freedom and immortality. The Strelitzia can grow up to 10 meters high in nature and has leaves that grow up to 2 meters long. The flowers have a horizontal inflorescence and arise from a sturdy bract. The flowers are pollinated by birds, honey suckers, which use the bract as a seat when they visit the flowers. The weight of the bird causes the flower to open and pollen ends up on the bird's feet, which the bird transfers to other Strelitzias. A Strelitzia Reginae can start flowering at an age of 8 years. After the flowering period, it can take up to 12 months for the Strelitzia to flower again.
