Vincent van Gogh's sunflowers
The most famous flower still life in the world is probably one of the “Sunflowers” by the Dutch painter Vincent Willem van Gogh (1853-1890). In 1888-1889, when Vincent lived in Arles, a town in the south of France, and had his studio there, he made 7 different paintings with sunflowers as the subject. Five of these beautiful paintings, which are considered highlights of his oeuvre, can be admired in various museums.
There are still 3 paintings of the sunflower series with 15 sunflowers and 2 paintings with 12 sunflowers. The painting with 5 sunflowers was destroyed during the Second World War and the painting with 3 sunflowers is in private property and cannot be visited. This Popcard contains 25 sunflowers. Vincent must have been jealous of that.
