Each Popcard can be sent as a greeting card and unfolded it becomes special presents. This 3D card was first devised by our designer, after which he made a test model of it manually. After this sample has been approved, the different shapes to be cut out are programmed in a computer. This computer controls a precision laser, which burns the finely detailed details from the various sheets of cardboard with a gossamer hot laser beam. This precise cutting is only possible with a laser. Once all shapes are cut separately, the card is assembled by hand. The card is then packed in a cellophane bag together with an envelope. The tulip is originally from Kazakhstan, from where the Turkish sultan in the 16e century took this beautiful flower to the gardens of the Turkish court in Constantinople, now Istanbul. This city had the most beautiful gardens, which many people came to see. Every year, when the tulips were in bloom, a big party was given by the Sultan. The tulip became very popular and symbolized power and wealth. To express this, the sultan therefore wore the tulip on his turban. Because the tulips also looked a lot like the turban, the name of the tulip is derived from the Persian word “tulipan” which means turban. Sultan Suleyman the First donated some tulips to important guests, including the Austrian ambassador. There they were planted in the gardens of the Emperor of Austria. In 1593 the first tulips in the Netherlands were planted in the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden. The tulips were very scarce and therefore very expensive. In 1634 the tulip madness, also called tulip mania, really broke loose in the Netherlands. Tulips were in high demand, and they became more and more expensive. There was plenty of speculation with the bulbs and a single tulip bulb at one point had the value of an Amsterdam canal house. Things could not continue and in 1637 the tulip madness ended just as quickly as it had started with the government banning trade. Some people had become very rich, but many speculators were left penniless.
